What began in 1990 as a special one time performance has developed into a unique band of extraordinary women from the Dutch pop/rock scene: Girls Wanna Have Fun. This ‘all girl’ spectacle lives up to it’s name: it’s all about FUN. The result is an energetic and captivating show with a constantly changing repertoire: from Dietrich to Queen from Elvis to Dusty.
The originator of this golden formula is artistic director Lies Schilp, still the driving force behind the Girls. Due to the Girls’ busy schedules, a GWHF performance is usually the exception rather than the rule. An onstage reunion is reason enough for a party!
As well as performing in many larger club venues including the legendary Roxy (Amsterdam), Het Paard van Troje (Den Haag), Nighttown (Rotterdam) and De Lantaarn (Hellendoorn), the Girls can be seen regularly at festivals such as Dauwpop, Oerol and TT Assen. A highlight of the 1997 season was a tour of Curaçao. On april 9th 2005, the Girls celebrated their 15th anniversary with a spectacular show in Amsterdam at the Melkweg.
In 2003 GWHF created a show which they presented with great success in theatres all over The Netherlands. The grand finale took place in Theater Carré (Amsterdam). In 2006 and 2008 GWHF did two more theatre tours, GWHF 2 and Girls in Crime. In 2010 the Girls will celebrate their 20th anniversary with a new theatre tour in the spring and festival shows in the summer.
On Dutch television GWHF has been featured in programs as Sonja, Maan bij Nacht, Paul Haenen, De Wereld Draait Door and a gala celebrating the 75th anniversary of the AVRO. For this occasion, the Girls composed and performed a special song “Zonder jou”.

A bootleg DVD of the 15-year anniversary is being released in 2005 and in 2008 a photo book of 212 pages on GWHF was brought out by Thieme Art.

On 9 July 2008 Vera Springveer (Charles Lücker) dies due  to the impact of AIDS. Vera has been part of GWHF for 13 years. At the Aidsgala in Paradiso the girls do a tribute to their
“next best friend ” (see: In memoriam Vera Springveer).
